It's for a school thing. Still, Jalopnik, Oppo and the rest of Kinja pass the !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , but YouTube and Facebook doesn't. No /DRIVE and Formula One for 6 weeks: f**k.

Fear Not! There are many VPNs that work in China. I have Astrill, I don't know if it's the best, but it works quite well and if you are operating out of a tight GFW network (as some companies and universities do) you can get "stealth VPN" (for an extra $5 per month) and have absolutely everything (including DHT traffic, streaming etc). Sometimes the GFW administrators manage to boot you off but if you just log out and restart your VPN, you'll be back in business.
Besides, the Yunnan region has some of the best food and sightseeing in China, and the ladies there are supposed to be among the prettiest!

I don't think China allows for any social media type sites. That would be bad for their interests, which is control.

I wonder if you could get a short-term monthly connection to satellite internet with some company that services that area (assuming there is) but it might be extremely expensive.

Either way, I have heard there are more grassroots ways to get around it, but I don't know details.
